Indian Home School Liaison

Summary:  The Indian Home School Liaison provides educational and social support to American Indian Students; by establishing and maintaining relationships with students and their families. Collaborates with school staff, parents and the local community in order to increase school attendance and student proficiency in subject areas such as reading, writing and math.

Ideal candidates will have knowledge and understanding of Ojibwe language and cultural traditions, and the traditional seasonal activities of the Anishinaabe.

Salary: Dependent on experience and qualifications, plus STD/LTD/Life Insurance.

Regular Routine Duties Include:

*Establish and maintain communication with students, parents and school staff for support services.

*Collaborate with local agencies and school staff in dealing with school disciplinary issues, complaints, truancy, suspension, behavioral problems, etc.

*Facilitate communication between home and school in identifying special education issues of assessments, IEP planning, due process and program implementation.

*Articulate cultural differences within the family that need to be considered as the IEP is being developed as needed.

*Complete reports as mandated by school board and state and federal agencies.

*Work with the Parent Advisory Committee.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Include:

*Knowledge of special education laws and due process, IEP assessment procedures related to special education.

*Knowledge of Native American cultural traditions and language demographics of community and resources.

*Knowledge of school policies and procedures regarding confidentiality and privacy data.

*Knowledge of schools consequences for behavior and attendance policy.

*Ability to communicate and establish positive relationships with students, parents, school staff and other agencies.

*Ability to mediate and follow through with conflict resolution issues.

*Ability to facilitate meetings (Including using Robert’s Rules) and apply good counseling techniques.

*Ability to provide consultation and resources for Indian culture and heritage to school staff.

*Strong time management and organization skills are needed.

*Able to attend work regularly and report to work in a timely manner

*Skills include: human relations and communication, confidentiality, mediation and conflict resolution, special education laws and advocacy.

*Able and willing to help in classrooms, at recess or in the cafeteria with students as needed.

Custodian- Part-Time

Oshki Ogimaag has an opening for a part-time custodian- maintenance professional. This person should be dependable, honest and hard-working. There are a variety of cleaning and light maintenance items that would be done. Schedule could be flexible and would be arranged between employee and school director.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, squat, kneel, reach above and head, reach forward, bend, and twist. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

Must have basic maintenance knowledge and organizational skills in order to maintain inventory of custodial and building supplies. Must be able to pass a criminal background check and drug test. Must have the ability to work independently. A high school diploma or GED is required.

2 Licensed Elementary School Teachers SY 2024-2025

The teacher is responsible for providing an educational environment where students have the opportunity to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical and psychological growth. The teacher is responsible to organize and implement an instructional program that will result in students achieving academic success in accordance with the school mission and goals, and align with MN state standards.

The ideal candidate would be a personable, flexible individual with  valid MN teacher licensure.  Kindergarten endorsement necessary. A strong science background is helpful.

Ideal candidates will have knowledge and understanding of Ojibwe language and cultural traditions, and the traditional seasonal activities of the Anishinaabe.

*Teacher will work in conjunction with special education teachers in order to ensure curricula is appropriate and modifications are complied with for special education students.

*Provides a positive environment in which students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning process
